This photo above (and below) is tiny, baby Monarch Butterfly caterpillars growing on my new Milkweed plant. See the itsy legs?? So adorable.
I cannot tell you how uplifted this makes me feel. A couple of weeks ago, our college student (who is staying at home while taking courses) saw a single Monarch butterfly in our yard. She was fluttering around, and was checking out what we had on offer. I am so glad she decided to trust us with her babies.
It all began last fall when I took a course at a local bookstore on native gardening. The teaching was giving out milkweed pods, which I put out as seed in the spring. And now nearly a year later, they are bearing the most lovely fruit.
