This Monday night will be the 2nd New Moon in December, thus will be a “Black” Moon. I read that this is rare. I guess it is rare from an arbitrary POV — that a thing we call a month has 2 of something that it usually has only 1 of. Rare.
A 2nd Full Moon in the month is called a Blue Moon. I guess that’s where the expression ‘once in a blue moon’ come from… the rarity.
I feel so disconnected from lunar cycles, from astronomical cycles. It’s been raining all day today. And even when it’s clear weather, the lights of the city overwhelm the delicate twinkles of stars and planets, or even the sliver of a crescent moon. Only a full or nearly full moon shines out noticeably.
